In reply to Bernard46’s post on April 30, In the process of repairing the original Vista C drive and getting the system to boot from that without hunting for the other drive, I found that the Dell manual section on system recovery via the Dell factory disk image restoration is nonsense. Performance of the machine once its booted is perfect. And haveing done so in Windows Update settings ensure recommended updates is turned off, leaving only Important updates selected for auto install. For instance this mnii I plugged in a new disk drive and rebooted the system – it took 16 minutes searching for drivers before it completed the task – I have no idea what it was doing all this time and there does not seem to be any way of finding out what it is doing.
